Alabama Accent

From Montgomery, AL to Mrs. Montgomery

The Newlywed Chronicles

You're the other half!”

Marriage is a cause for celebration. Whether it is in its beginning stages or enjoying the fruits of its labor in its mature stages. As you all know, my marriage is in its beginning stages. We have a lot to learn and look forward to many years of celebrating. Many times I have heard that the first few years are the hardest, as two become one. Learning to join two lives can be difficult. It can also be comical. In our relationship, I am the storm and Seth is the calm.

Part of our journey to marriage was planning for the big day. The first thing I wanted to cross off my list was a good photographer. I was so excited when we were able to book “the photographer” for our wedding. After conflicting schedules we were able to book our engagement session. It was very important to me to have my dog, Concho, in our pictures. I arranged to take an afternoon off work to take time for our session. Seth and I packed two of our best outfits. I placed them in the back of the car along with shoes, Concho and a bag that carried my finest accessories. We drove to Amarillo, excited about our photo session. I unloaded our clothes and my bag and carried them into the studio. As I laid them out, I noticed a BIG yellow spot on my white shirt and on half of Seth's blue shirt. I looked in my bag and it was soaked as well. I was livid. I stood there speechless. I honestly did not know what to do. This photographer stayed booked and would not be able to see us for at least another month. Panic set in. I could not believe that my well trained, beloved dog did this to me! He had never, ever urinated inside a vehicle before. Seth grabbed my hands and coached me into a calm breathing pattern. “We'll sort this out.” He said calmly. He also walked me to the car and restrained me from beating my now, devil dog. It took some effort, but we were able to reschedule and Concho did appear in our pictures. Seth was right, we did sort it out.

While Seth and I were headed into town one afternoon, we reflected on some of the more comical moments in our relationship. The above incident was a big topic. I laughed at how well we suit each other. Seth mentioned a couple more like incidents. I could see the wheels turning in his head when he looked at me and said, “You're half nuts!” I turned to him and exclaimed, “You're the other half!”
